Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir and Megan Whitmarsh open their exhibition "ÍSANGELES", Saturday 2nd of July at 5.
Megan is L.A. based artist and Hekla studied and lived in L.A. up until recently.

Los Angeles based artist Megan Whitmarsh had never been to Iceland prior to exhibiting at Kling & Bang Galleri. These two places, Iceland and Los Angeles, seem to have parallel elements: a dialogue between the modern and the ancient, a culture informed by fantastic stories, and an awareness of dramatic natural vistas and climates as well as the occasional menace of Mother Nature (mostly earthquakes). Each place has it's own kind of exoticism that encourages daydreams and both are rich territories for invention.

Specifically, the work for this show will include hand embroidered canvases depicting miniature scenes and settings populated by yetis, elf girls, crystals, icebergs, rocks, etc ... The socializing and warring characters are fastidiously detailed with tiny cigarettes, gold necklaces, silver cel phones, and brightly hued moon boots. Iceland's folkloric tradition of sagas, superstitions, and fantastic creatures informs this iconography, supplemented by the detritus of pop culture and the modern world.

Drawings and video will also be shown.
