On Friday, August 23, the exhibition Infinity Pool opens at Kling & Bang. Artists Arnar Ásgeirson and Kristín Karólína Helgadóttir present new works created specifically for this exhibition.
In the exhibition, the Artist showcases works that, with humour, highlight how everyday systems in which we are participants shape and guide our behaviour and values.
Arnar Ásgeirsson (b. 1982) received his BA Fine Art at Gerrit Rietveld Academy and MA from Sandberg Institute in Holland. Arnar works in diverse media, such as video, drawings, installations and sculpture, to communicate his stories. In his works, he selects mundane cultural references, some of which are well known and some that aren’t, recreates them and gives them a new meaning. By using familiar imagery, Arnar speculates about the original and the copy, and the difference between creating and imitating. He is a founding member of the artist-led space Open.
Kristín Karólína Helgadóttir completed her BA studies in art theory and philosophy in
2015 from the University of Iceland and her master’s degree in visual arts from KASK in
Belgium in 2021. Kristín Karólína uses various media in her work to shed light on the inner
tension and constant ambivalence between Western ways of life and the construction of nature. Metaphors of dreams playing with the mundane, finding their way to unexpected revelations, assist the audience stay afloat in the whirlpool of present perception. She has been a member of the artist-run spaces, Kunstschlager in Reykjavík and ABC Klubhuis in Antwerp. In 2024, she had works in the Reykjavík Art Museum’s exhibition Vitamin D.
Artist Hildigunnur Birgisdóttir has written a text to accompany the exhibition.
