We welcome you to the opening of our upcoming shows Dust Drift by Gústav Geir Bollason and Off Season by Rakel Andrésdóttir at Kling & Bang this Saturday, October 17th at 5 pm.

Dust Drift
Gústav Geir Bollason

A fishing line descends into the sea. Driftwood washes ashore. Dust gathers in a room. In Gústav Geir Bollason’s exhibition Dust Drift (Rek Ryk), materials move under forces beyond their control, accumulating and leaving traces of movements only partly visible. Through fishing, drawing and spinning, the exhibition explores how we come to know our surroundings through physical encounters with materials, places and other forms of life.

Across the exhibition, lines connect things otherwise difficult to bring together. The fishing line descends beneath the surface, the thread gathers dispersed matter, and the pencil traces movements that take shape through the act of drawing. Clocks, cameras, engines, and rotating structures register different forms of repetition, while circles and vortices gather movement around elusive centres of stillness.

Off Season
Rakel Andrésdóttir

In her exhibition Off Season, Rakel presents new video works and an installation created over the past year. The exhibition explores a sense of disconnection and dissociation from our environment, other people, and ourselves. The main characters of the works are a coral statue from Tenerife and a Himalayan salt lamp trapped in a loveless relationship. They travel through off-season tourist destinations: a dried-up beach, a ski resort without snow, and a romantic hotel in the middle of a construction site. Throughout their journey, we witness the slow and impending end of their relationship and the world around them.

Gústav Geir Bollason (b. 1966) is an artist and filmmaker who lives in the north of Iceland, in the small coastal village of Hjalteyri, where he manages the local art space “Verksmiðjan á Hjalteyri”. Bollason’s artistic practice is primarily a response to the landscape and the life it harbours. Creating drawings, found-object sculptures, animations, videos, and films, he often combines these media in installations that give rise to fictional extensions of reality. In his works he often focuses on liminal zones, wastelands, and ruins. These sites afford rich opportunities to explore subjects including environmental change, energy and material use, and entropy, as well as the stories and myths embedded in landscapes. In disorder and decay, Bollason highlights the opportunities offered by change and the passage of time.

Rakel Andrésdóttir (b.1997) is a visual artist and filmmaker whose practice includes animation. She has participated in group exhibitions at Hamraborg Festival, Gallery Käytävä in Finland, Harbinger, Sind, and Open. She has been in artist residencies in Estonia, Norway, and Finland, and held an open studio at Gryfjan in Ásmundarsalur. In 2025, she received an Edda Award for her documentary short film Cherry Tomatoes. Rakel holds a BA in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts, which she completed in 2020, and studied animation at FAMU in the Czech Republic, graduating in 2023.

The exhibition is supported by Myndlistarsjóður, Reykjavík City and Ægir brugghús.
