The two videos show squats in Oslo and Berlin which the artist hsa painted white without the squatters’ consent. Here he applies their own ideology of ownership and protest in order to trespas their cultural territory, thereby making an attempt to undermine the squats by transforming their aesthetics. The two works address the ownership of culture and aesthetics in a symbolic way but also physically and directly, without applying a hegemonic approach.

Ingirafn Steinarsson graduated from the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts in 1999 and graduated with an MA-degree from the Malmö Art Academy in 2006. He uses vairous media, such as installations, objects, drawings and video. Recently his works address concepts such as “cultural tool” and “aesthetics of function”, which the artists employes to critically engage with his own subjects as well as his surroundings.
