Uppúr vasanum drógu þau spýtu / They Removed a Plank of Wood from their Pocket
27. 04. 2024 - 02. 06. 2024

This Saturday, 27th of April at 16.00, two exhibitions will open at Kling&Bang: “They Removed a Plank of Wood from their Pocket” an exhibition by the artists duo Tara and Silla and the exhibition “Monophthong” by Andri Björgvinsson.

They Removed a Plank of Wood from their Pocket:
The floorboards creak. They hiss, whisper and sing.
The planks are laid down side by side, plank by plank.
In their solo exhibition They Removed a Plank of Wood from their Pocket, Tara and Silla exhibit new work that weaves in and out of the floor. We get to know the floor through the movements of the Mouse, the songs of the plank and the texture of the wood. In their process they take apart a phenomenon, break it up into bits and puzzle together the pieces.
Tara Njála Ingvarsdóttir (b.1996) and Silfrún Una Guðlaugsdóttir (b.1996) are the performance artist-duo Tara and Silla. They have been working together since they first started in the BA Visual Arts department of the Iceland University of the Arts, from there they graduated in 2020. In their practice and work, playfulness, communication and friendship are their guiding light in making performances, installations, and videoworks. They often work with participation and their motto is: “Playful not hostile”.
They have held two solo exhibitions, in the Sculpture Garden of Reykjavík and in Kleifar Culture Farm and taken part in group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad, namely the Rolling Snowball in Djúpivogur, 60 performances in 60 days, Open House in The Hauge and Upptaktur að myndlist in Harpan. This time they look down towards the floor with an installation that is an ode to the material and space that we walk on.
