Although the works do not directly address these latest and worst of times (or the newest version of the same), there is an existential undertone throughout the exhibition. The works circle around the overwhelming surplus of knowledge in contemporary life, play with worn-out philosophical clichés (as if those clichés were elderly victims of a complicated scam), or just linger — because sometimes lingering is the most decisive action.
If the exhibition could be said to draw the outlines of anything, it might be the centerless ideological multitude that characterizes the zeitgeist. These varied and contradictory positions echo freely through the gallery like voices in a choir, entirely indifferent to the rising tide of automation and any kind of auto-tuning.
The exhibition is marked by a renewed turn toward materiality, spirit, and a kind of restraint or hesitation — the quietness found only in standing against the particular madness of every era.
